Fly muck problem!!!

My mother in law is having a big problem with flies leaving mess on fabrics. She has fly preventatives - but not working. Now a fabric lamp has black dots on it, cream sofas and white bedding. When the bedding was washed it has left yellow stains. The sofa and lamp cant bee machine washed - any ides what would get rid of it?!
