Thanks for the advice Gertie. My only concern is being credited.
I have been ripped off in my last two jobs with little justice despite taking every action possible (that isn't going to cost me more than what I am owed). So right now I feel like I have lost faith in whatever systems there are.
Thanks for everyone's help.0 -
I agree with Gertie Walker and suggest letting it go. If you really want absolute confidence for piece of mind you could hire an accountant to go through he motions as if you were going to submit a tax return and seeing what the overall outcome is. Ask yourself if you'd be willing to pay £150 or whatever fee for this, I think that might put all this into a different perspective! If it isn't worth the money then surely this isn't worth your time and hassle either?

Do not be concerned about your employer not paying over PAYE to HMRC. That has nothing to do with you. If it makes you feel any better HMRC will catch up with them eventually, HMRC generally do not know much about anything until they get and process the forms after the end of the year, it's not until then that the wheels slowly begin turning. Your complaints may well trigger a compliance visit on them. But you won't be told any of this because it's simply not your problem.0 -
Reading this post through I understand you have already sent your P45 to your tax office to work out if you have paid the right tax and you are waiting for the reply. None of the other things appear to be relevant so I suggest you wait for the outcome.
If you have a record of the income you have for the taxyear and the tax that was deducted, which you are obligated to keep, it doesn't matter if the employer paid it over on not, it's relatively easy to work out if you have paid the right tax. HMR&C and do this or an accountant, however if you don't have this information an accountant can't help you.0 -
I wouldn't pay an accountant to sort this out - any honest accountant would tell you what we have said.
It may help you to know that the processing offices at HMRC do not check with Collection side to confirm that tax has been paid. If they get a P45 and a tax claim, they just deal with it as if the tax has been paid and leave the actual collection to the collectors.0
