Car insurance for young people.

I have recently just passed my driving test, and now come the mind boggling task of trying to find a car and a car insurance package that will not require me to get a mortgage to cover the extraordinary costs.

Unfortunately it does not get any easier, as i am within the groups that are the worst to insure:

1. I am a 19 year old male
2. I am a student

Is there anyone who can help me out? Or is it best to leave it until i am older?

A family friend owns a Citroen garage so if i do get a car, it will be some kind of Citroen. In terms of my occupation, I am on the bank at my local hospital, so when i am back from university i am a full time employee of the hospital, so i don't know whether i could put my occupation as a civil servant, rather than a student (because i am sure this would be cheaper! Although perhaps this would be fraudulent)
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks
Jack

Huge number of threads on here but expect to be asked to pay in the region of £3k - £4k depending on where you are located. Have a look at the threads for inspiration.

    I have found

    - Decent milage takes price down (I go around 7k)
    - Own car, main driver
    - Park on road is cheaper (for me anyway) than on a driveway.....
    - Try adding a friend on top as a second drive, might be cheaper (mine is anyway)
    - Fully Comp is sometimes cheaper than TPFT
    - Add excess if you think you won't claim

    I paid: £1500, £1200, £900, £600 (lost no claims between 2 and 3)
