Why is getting a credit report so hard?

I went to Experian, filled all in and apparently I already had an account and I do vaguely remember viewing it about 7 years ago, so went to reset details but I no longer have access to the email address, infact can't remember what it is. So gave up and tried Equifax.

Equifax I went through all, thought I was getting places until I got to the end when it says call us on an 0870 number Monday to Friday.

I just want to view my credit report today, Can I do it anywhere else??

Right I got my credit report but can't make head nor tale of it.

    I have a credit score of 649

I am not on the electoral role even though I get voting slips through my door with my name on them at time of election.

    Checked and clear no judgements

0 searches recorded in last 12 month

    I have 1 creditor with a balance of 0

    0 Fraud warnings.

On paper all looks good but can't get credit

    Edit it says

There are no CIFAS category 0 or 2 warnings registered at your address

Do not pay for credit scores they are meaning less, each creditor "scores" you on there on criteria. Its not 1-1000 but a yes/no, or APR available to that person based on the file.

Getting a credit report is easy, but it is personal information and a prime target for identify fraud, so security checks do have to be put in place. Generally if you use a card/account to buy the report that is listed on the file and the name/addresses match up it should go through online.

It is however much cheaper to just buy the £2 postal reports every 3, 6 or 12 months. Sure you cannot see it today but you will see it within a week.

If your not on the voters roll, you need to speak to your council. They are the ones who put you on it.

CIFAS is an anti-fraud flag you can add to your credit file, it reduces frauds my ensuring additional checks - http://www.cifas.org.uk/default.asp?edit_id=565-85

No judgements means no CCJs, CO, etc.

0 searches in 12 months means no one has search your file, although this may increase to 1 shortly as you just searched it.

You have 1 creditor, so i assume this is a credit card/current account/mobile account or loan of some description.

What exactly are you expecting to see? In reality it should only show information you are expecting to see.

Different agencies hold different information, callcredit holds the least, as such its recommend to only get the £2 reports from experian and equilfax.

I have read on here before about someone who didn't show as on the electoral role with the credit reference agencies because the way the council wrote the address was different two how everyone else wrote it, so it might be worth checking that out.

Alternatively, how long is it since you registered with the electoral role? It can take a while for it to update.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

I've lived here 4 years almost, last time I got electoral voting forms was at the last election in April/May this year

Not all creditors use the same agencies, so your other creditors could be on another report. To get a full picture you need to get all three reports, as they're not all the same.

In which case i refer you back to my original comment.

Creditors do not have to supply information to the agencies it is optional. Some account may not appear at all!

This is a rough list of which creditors use which agency - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2419785
