I have so many ingrown hairs on my legs, not the sore kind, just the ones that I can't grab, that I have to squeeze and prise out like spots.....
It has given me a lot of spots on my legs, and under my arms has never looked so boily, lumpy and garishly red.....
As soon as I have epilated, I can feel stubble......
Please someone help
I have been epilating approx a month or so, at first I could only manage about 3 seconds on my leg lol, but now I can proper go for it, doesn't bother me at all, even arms, but I seriously must be doing something wrong. I have the braun silk epil 7, supposedly the best on the market....most certainly the most expensive, and I soooooooo want to get it right and have the silky smooth look for even a week would be nice, never mind 3, and I am exfoliating, every single day, with exfoliating gloves, and dove soap/body wash, and believe me, I do scrub.......
(maybe I should get some new gloves?) I don't know, but I can't believe I spent £80 on it, as its crap!!!!! (or is it me.....)
Please help....

Have you tried dry-brushing? It sloughs off dead skin and should help with the ingrown hair problem. I'd also recommend not scrubbing/exfoliating so hard with a soap product, as this may well be inflaming the pores and making your skin look worse.
Incidentally, I've never been able to stand depilating my underarms... ouch!"All cruelty springs from weakness" - Lucius Annaeus SenecaPersonal pronouns are they/them/their, please.

When you exfoliate, try to find a wash or wipe with tea-tree oil or some other skin friendly anti-bac in as it can help I think. I use a St Ives or BodyShop scrub- you really gotta scrub well though, like 30 seconds plus per leg. The I wash with a tea-tree oil wash from the bodyshop if its any help.
I also find it helps to exfoliate before I wash, I do this every wash anyway but as I don't get many ingrowing hairs (yet....) maybe it helps?
You can also get some products which work to stop ingrowing hairs, I have one but don't use it ver often. They smell strongly and have a high alcohol content. I think they work like a facial toner but are very much stronger- they dry out the dead skin so its not so easy for it to block the pores. Could be worth a try? Nads does one, (Boots, Sainsburys, Superdrug etc all sell it) think you can get more expensive ones too.
I think though its also something you get used to with time. Its like at first they just seem inevitable whatever you do, then they stop appearing so often, maybe I got better at exfoliation? or maybe my skin got used to the epilators way of removing hair.0 -
What epilators do u both have, how long u been doin it and do u absolutely 100% have completely smooth skin? I'm sure I read somewhere about epilatin every few days to get the hairs the same length or somethin, but I can't remember where I read it...0

I have the Braun Silk-Epil Xelle. I do get smooth skin as I am OK with the pinging feeling when it takes the hairs. Waxing is far easier and less painful I find but this is cheaper. I don't find it gets every hair as some are just too short but then neither does waxing.
It does matter how taut the skin is though I think as its fine on my legs- I get red dots when I am done but it is do able and the red dots fade after about 24 hours but on my under arms, whenever I have tried and no matter how taut I pull the skin (and trust me, I pride myself on my flexbility, my skin is as taut as I can get it). But I rarely ever manage to pick up many hairs, yet the epilator makes me bleed with ever hair it yanks out. It is not therefor possible for me to do my underarms.
I am just pleased mine is a dual electric shaver as well as it would be near useless to me- I end up shaving once to twice a day instead.
I think its the same as waxing though, wait for the hair cycle as hairs grow at different times and at different rates. The time at which hair can grow can be as much as 3 weeks difference. I'd say use the epilator once a week.0 -
I have used an epilator for a number of years as I hate the feeling of stubbly legs. However it is only recently that I have achieved the best results following someone telling me to slather on aqueous cream all over especially my legs before showering and rubbing it off using exfoliating gloves. This seems to reduce the amount of ingrowing hairs and leaves my legs feeling very silky and smooth (as well as the rest of my body). I hope this might help!0

I don't have 100% smooth skin most of the time but that is because I suffer from folliculitis . Dry brushing does help with this though. I use the same epilator as jenniewb, the Silk-Epil Xelle - although mine doesn't have a shaver unit, just a smartlight to help illuminate the skin.
The epilator wins on convenience for me, as I get a dreadful razor burn if shaving and though I like sugaring, the hassle of boiling up a pan and then having to clean half of it off the bathroom floor puts me off a lot of the time.
I usually epilate once or twice a week, at nights so my skin has a chance to recover."All cruelty springs from weakness" - Lucius Annaeus SenecaPersonal pronouns are they/them/their, please.

OMG you are me... but you have a mor expensive epilatorI've got the model that was out brfor yours.
I've got very bad ingrowing hairs on my legs to the point I scratch them so much that my legs bleed  I've been experimenting a bit lately as to what works best for me. I quickly run the epilator over my legs everyday, which is a pain until I find a better way. I exfoliate every night with my scratchy gloves and although it keeps my legs almost itch free it also helps the ingrowing hairs to come through.... so I have to epilate again the next day  I make sure I moisturise my legs well after my bath too. It's not been as bad as normal but I have still got red marks/spots on my legs and it's annoying me sooo much!!
I'll take the advice posted above about using a more skin friendly wash instead of my normal shower gel and see how that goes :T
I use a needle that I wipe with a steri wipe and gently break the top layer of skin and the hair just pops out. It doesn't make my legs as red as picking/squeezing them.
I sometimes want to smash my epilator against the wallEven if you stumble, you're still moving forward.0
