Superglue in my door locks

Guys,
Someone has superglued my door locks. I paid £120 for a guy to fix the front for me, but 2 doors at the back remain.

Any ideas to save me some money? Any chemicals that can strip the glue, or something similar?

Thanks in advance.

Superglue is not waterproof, even leaving things out in the rain will cause the bond to eventually break.
Although door locks tend to be a bit sheltered.

Really you can probably save alot of cash (although not time) by replacing the locks yourself :)

Just make sure you get an *exact* replacement, the exact same width, height and depth so that it fits.

  • Hi,
When you get your new locks put wintergreen in them.

  • Poundland sometimes sell a solvent which is supposed to unstick superglue. Hot water isn't really practical for door locks, since prolonged soaking is required.

This is not going to be of much help to you so pretty pointless me posting however i will just incase. We had this happen to us a while back (argument with neighbour, lo and behold superglue in the lock treatment, wa##er!!)

Anyway the guy who came to deal with it said that he could get rid of the glue without replacing the locks if we wanted to by blasting it with a small gun like contraption that contained a water based liquid (he wouldnt tell us what). He did say that if we took that option then the locks would not be right and would need replacing sometime in the near future anyway.
  • Thanks for all the info...I'll have to try these and see what happens...
And hope it doesn't happen again!
  • try WD 40 1st! im 99% sure this will work or weaken the gule,.. or normal cooking oil leave on there for about 24 hours,..

From memory I would have to agree with some here that an organic solvent like acetone (better than nail polish remover) should ultimately disolve it and will be better than an ionic solvent like water.

Put a dummy camera up, that might prevent the jack !!! from doing it again, one of those cameras would be cheaper than a set of locks.
