With regards to a new bank account, as long as you don't owe them anything, I would recommend the Co-operative bank's Cashminder account. You get a basic account with a Visa debit card, no overdraft facility and its really easy to set up. I called the number I found on their website expecting "press 1 for this...blah blah blah...." but actually my call was answered by a real live person. In Britain. It was all set up within a week!! :T
