Buy-to-let beach hut?
It looks like beach huts are the latest casualty in the Summer slump in housing sales.
In the boom times - a well located Dorset beach hut would sell over night for the price of a northern terrace house.
Apparently no more!
A third estate agent has been brought in by a Dorset council to sell designer beach huts, on the market for up to £89,995, after slow sales.
The retro-style "surf pods" in Boscombe's revamped Overstrand building went on sale in May 2009 from £64,995.
But only 12 of the 43 huts, designed by Wayne Hemingway, have been sold.
The surf pods are now available from £44,995. An interesting buy-to-let opportunity?
Expenses for the pods are estimated at around £1500 a year but peak season rentals could reach £250.

I read that too.
I know this sounds dreadfully sad but I quite fancy a beach hut.
I'd get a caravan but I couldn't quite bring myself to become more of parody of a pi key than I already amRetail is the only therapy that works0 -
When I read surfing I think Beach Boys, California, Bondai (Bonzai?) beach, lifeguards, Pamela Anderson, cool dudes, all year sun, blue seas, golden beaches, barbecues, beach parties.
When I read Dorset I think pensioners, incontinence, grey skies, cups of tea, soggy fish and chips, rain.
Nice shed. Wrong location.0 -

You don't need a wooden hut FF.
What woman could turn you down?
Other than those who actually know you obviously.......Retail is the only therapy that works0 -

I remember a post you made a very long time ago about a wizards sleeve.
I have had huge doubts about your pulling power ever since:rotfl:Retail is the only therapy that works0 -

Those Boscombe ones are actually on my "might buy one of those" lists.... really.
But not at the price they are/were.
As for the name surf pods... we have loads of those where I am, but they're actually studios - and nowhere near the beach (can't even see the sea) - they started at £100k (from memory). Madness.
The problem with any 2nd home, holiday home, holiday caravan... or beach hut, is taking on the commitment to be able to afford the yearly fees.
I got some prices on some holiday caravans (just to double check my beliefs) - £30k, a 10 year license, £3k/year fees. I felt that for £6k/year I'd rather do something else with the money (if I had it)... £6k is a LOT of holidaying!!!
And you're stuck with the same choice.
Bit like timeshare... I've never understood why people think they're a good idea. Much more expensive than renting on a whim I'd have thought.0 -
You could just pop down the road and spend a little more over Hengistbury Head/Mudeford

Some timeshare are good. My family had RCI, although grandparents "bought" thier share in the Algarve, we all used it and they often gave us free weeks, you can go anywhere, the family have gone to florida, Canada, france, switzerland:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most?
