How to clean an ikea sofa!?

Options
Hi all - I have an Ikea sofa (one of the £120 ones! think it's cotton) and it's cream and covered in little food splashes, dirty marks etc - needs a good clean. The cover isn't removable, you can buy covers for them that velcro-on but the colours are hideous!

I have the usual to hand (stardrops, bicarb, big sponges, salt, fairy washing up liquid!!) but I don't know the best way to go about it. Any suggestions? (wish I'd bought a wipe down leather one now lol!!)

I would try a solution of Stardrops first - just go around treating all the actual marks first, rinse with plain water and let it dry, then see what it looks like. If you've got the worst of it off, then use a more dilute solution to clean the cover all over. Obviously, don't over-wet it in case it shrinks. Perhaps you ought to think about getting a cheap washable throw for it to save future problems?

I would try a solution (not too strong) of stardrops & sponge it on sparingly, dab dry with a towel. Start in a place that's not too obvious to make sure you've got it right.

cross posted with tawnyowls - so you've got pretty much the same answer twice over!

If you can get hold of a steam cleaner these are great for things like this, they also have a multitude of other uses. However not very practical if you don't have one or can't borrow them as they're around £60/new.

They kill dust mites too, we're thinking of getting one because it looks like H might be dust-sensitive.

Could you make your own cover? Or buy one of theirs and then cover it in a fabric you do like/dye it a colour you do like?

I used to have this when I lived in myt mates house.

I personally think they are ipossible to get REALLY clean and also that the covers are a nightmare to put back on. I expect though, avid OSers, would be able to make a slit and fastening to get them on easier.

Im a bit spoiled as I reckon ive got the comfiest sofas ever, but they are not easy to sleep on those klippans

Hoewever, they do look very smart.
