So, after all the 'will I ever work again' trauma, and getting a fixed contract..
- 2 employers asked me for interview this week
- most recent employer offered me a permanent job!! much travel but pension + car + decent money means it's got to be the one...
I really should've listened to mates who said it'd pick up once people got back from holidays...
Net effects are
- not starting work on temp contract on Monday even though I said I would. (hadn't signed contract but have acquired some bad karma here)
- debt free date now looks like *maybe* 31st December. Due to still needing 6 months wages in emergency fund (on probation!!) and not working for about 6 weeks.
Fingers crossed HR can get my new contract through soon 'cos I can start as soon as I've got it... then from Jan, it's paying off the mortgage.
What I now need are tips from the well travelled about not spending oodles on *crap* cos you're bored and in a hotel.. five pounds a pint etc... knitting is only going to keep me busy for so long!
I also got a tiny tax rebate
And I also need ideas for getting more good karma to balance the bad!

Well done!
Seek out bars off the beaten track if you are going out whilst travelling, you will pay less. Otherwise buy abottle of water and take it up to your hotel room!
Eat in "Subways"! Cheap but healthy and very filling. Have got me out of a jam many times.Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.
Sainsburys Loan: Cleared July 2010
Credit cards: AMEX Airmiles Card: direct debit set to clear balance monthly

Well if you are earning more you will be paying more in tax and NI which in turn goes to helping sick people and educating youngsters!0 -
Nice way to think of it
Maybe I need to donate to the MSE charity fund too, though...Debt free 4th April 2007.

Well done on the job! Good karma - well you're on here quite a bit aren't you, offering advice, support etc......so your karma account must be pretty well in credit. I wouldn't worry about the temp contract, in actual fact you've done them a favour - if you had REALLY wanted the job, you would have signed the contract and accepted it - now you have saved them from having an employee who's heart was not in it (okay, I'm kind of grasping at straws here lol). Anyway, all's fair in love, war and job hunting!
If you're really worried about bad karma, you can come and do my washing up for me if you like......??

I'm not fussy - I'll settle for that! Consider yourself karma'd up!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Well, I travel a bit for work and it's pretty easy to get bored in hotels. You just have to treat it like home really, and watch a bit of telly (if you're on your own and have nobody to socialise with!). I use the chance to read a lot, I never seem to have time to do that anymore.
Or I make use of their internet connection (work picks up the bill) and catch up on my emailing (I'm not from the UK originally, always seem to have people on at me for not emailing enough!), and things that I can't really do in work time. (like looking into travel etc, nothing dodgy, ha ha!)
Or depending on where I'm going, I'll do a bit of research first and find something cheap to do locally, movies etc (always cheaper outside of London so it's a chance to catch up on those!). If it's overseas, I'll do a bit of sightseeing if I'm up for it. Just wandering around, soak up the atmosphere etc.
In terms of actual travel, carry your own snacks, water etc (unless the company pays). I like to at least have an empty water bottle on me that I can fill up.0
