Removing old Joint account from Credit File

Hi

Can someone please tell me if it is possible to remove a bank account which i used to have with an ex partner about 5 years ago but only found out it was very overdrawn and still in use last year. I have since removed my name from the account and completed a disassociation with Credit Expert so im not shown as financially linked to him anymore but the account still appears on my credit file. The current status is 'arrangement' which im assuming is because he has set this up to avoid legal action but it is also showing as 'settled' which im wondering is due to my name being off the account now but ideally i would like it completely removed as i want to get a mortgage next year so i paying off all credit cards etc in preparation.

Thanks for any advice!

Heather

Are you sure you are no longer on the account listed as an account holder.

if you are definatly not the account holder, you should be able to get in touch with the credit reference agency and have a notice of correction added. As whilst you were an account holder the information is valid, it is only any information since been removed that would be invalid.

The account information should still show on your report but with the info on the day you were no longer part of the account as that is valid information since it was your account. It will probably stay on there for a few (upto 6) years and the payment history for (upto 3) years.

This might help too - (Credit explained PDF) - (Page 19 onwards) - http://www.ico.gov.uk/for_the_public/topic_specific_guides/credit.aspx
