  • We have just moved and called up to cancel Sky a month ago. Kind lady said we would need to give 30 days notice to cancel BUT gave us our package (with Sky Sports, no movies) for a £1 for 2 months! So we only paid a £1 to cancel instead of the usual monthly price of £38!

We still actually have the contract so may phone them up about the "moving home" options. We are in a very poor freeview area and now the weather is getting worse we need Sky back!

    Thanks for the tips :j

Great list - this should become a sticky of something to maximise the savings for everyone
  • Thanks for the list.

Does anybody know what would happen if you sign up to the free broadband -would cancelling sky tv mean you have to pay full price for the broadband

As that might stop bargaining for those Sky TV deals

I've been on hold for over an hour with them before. Made them give me an account credit for £10 to cover the call and my time.
Bet match total as of 04/10 = God Knows + About £1000 Quidco. Time for Mrs Huddsta to have a crack!!!

The Bronze Challenge - earn £250 in profits =£73.32
  • they also offer sky+ for free too, just say that u get a free hd box with telewest and that is why you are leaving, happened with me
  • Just wanted to let you know that I rang up Sky four months ago to add Sky Sport as our local football team were in a play off match. We have everything but Sports normally. I rang to cancel the Sports part before the month was up and was asked why I wanted to cancel it. I told them we don't watch any of them and don't need it. I was then offered three months full package for less money (down to £22 per month for full package compared to £37 a month for everything but Sports). Obviously I jumped at it and he even gave me a date to put on my calender to ring and cancel the full package so I didn't get charged for the Sports later on. I didn't ask for anything and was just offered it!

So I think some of the operators have things to give away too - maybe I was a nice customer on a bad day or maybe he was just a very nice operator and I was lucky! Makes you think though - I'm going to be even nicer if I have to ring again!!

  • I cancelled my sky package over a year ago and have been sent 'please come back' offers in the post ever since but yesterday they actually rang me and asked why I had cancelled so I told them it was due to poor service and the fact the the prices go up and up every year.

I was assured that they were trying to improve their service and offered 6 months half price, free sky+ box and free install

    I still said no thanks
  • hi.....i cancelled my sky this week...when i got put through to the retentions dept, i got a quite curt sorry NO offers and they excepted my cancellation with no argument at all..so it obviously does'nt work for everyone...although to be quite honest i not really that bothered to pursue it further, because i've lost count the amount of times my wife and i have sat flicking through a plethora of poor quality channels and found nowt to watch..so unless they phone me with an exceedingly brill deal,i'll manage to live without it i'm sure..:Dplus its amazing what you can find for FREE on the internet:j
