How to tell a Gucci bag is authentic?

I was helping a rather glamorous friend of my mums clear out some of her spare rooms, she gave us some stuff she no longer wants including what appears to be a Gucci bag. I am not into handbags, if it is authentic I would rather ebay it and use the money for others things, but it's important to me if I am going to advertise it as a Gucci bag that it really is one, otherwise I'll just keep it. Do any of you handbag devotees know how to tell? Would it be worth ebaying?

you could try posting on the purse forum
http://forum.purseblog.com/gucci/
there is a thread specifically for authenticating bags on there.
the members will let you know which bits of the bag are giveaways for spotting fakes and advise if they think its real or fake

After doing some googling I've come to the conclusion its a fake, just a very, very good one! Much attention to detail has been paid, the weave and GG symbols are perfect, the lining, zips and even a tag inside are all embossed with GUCCI etc., though for me what gives it away is the straps on the outside aren't actually leather. I can't believe people would pay £££ for a bag that doesn't have real leather straps! That and the fact that my Mum's friend is a regular visitor of the far east where there are a lot of fakes makes me suspicious. Still, teen daughters are very jealous! No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!0
