Phantom shop

Options
Hello everyone,

Today I am trying to meal plan for the week and was thinking of doing an 'online phantom' shop to see what it would total up to.

Are you able to do this with Tescos? I wasn't sure if I could register for the online shopping and then only go so far with an order.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

  • yes - you will only purchase when you go through checkout. Just don't go through the checkout!
  • I used to order online from Tesco's so I am already registered with them. Now, in the interests of money saving I go to the store in person but do my list on the Tesco website first. Then I print it off and delete my basket ready for next time. I also use it as my online shopping list during the week. Works quite well for me since I know how much my total spend will be and I can adjust it a bit if I'm going over budget - easier than trying to work it out in the shop with two babies in tow. Hope this helps.
  • I'm not sure if it takes off the money for Bogofs though?
I've done this before and its great for budgeting!

I did this the other day, i registered and then just went round all the catagories 'buying' what i was wanting from my shopping list so that i could see how much it was going to come to, then just closed it all down without going to the checkout!!!! Then went to Tescos knowing how much i needed to take, and it came to less, due to me using some coupons and there special offers, so that was a nice surprise too!!!!
  • Yep, I do this too ;)
  • It doesn't take into account BOGOFs - so you get a pleasant surprise when you get to the checkout as I found out today.

Another one who does this too - although I need to improve my list writing skills as we always seem to spend more at the shop than when I total it all up online:mad:

I also do the same virtual shop at Tesco and Ocado to see which one comes out cheaper!
  • I do this all the time!! Write up my shopping list, note how much everything is and then go to Tesco with that money, a lot of the time I'm pleasantly surprised as it is less!! And what I've been doing lately is going to Lidl first with my list and only buying what is on my list that is cheaper than Tesco and then going to Tesco for what is left. (they are very close to each other where I live)

    Thanks everyone!!!

I am going to have a go at it now. Will be good to see how much I can limit our food spending too.

I am also trying to make the food stretch to my lunch for the next day!

Fingers crossed, hope this all goes okay:j
