re 2nd card holder

Hi

Can some one tell me what happens to a secondary card holder if a credit card bill goes unpaid?
Does it affect their credit scoring?

    Hi bluemonday3,

I don't think a 2nd cardholder would be penalised if a bill goes unpaid, as the main account holder has done the application and asked for the 2nd card etc. There may however be an association on the 2nd persons credit file but I would not be 100% sure. Someone with more knowledge than me should be along to provide additional advice.
If you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.

If you're a 2nd card holder on someone else's credit card then there's no impact on you at all if they don't pay the bill. Similarly, you have no liability for any debts you run up using a 2nd card (provided you didn't steal it or something...) It isn't a joint financial product in any sense.

So long as you are not a named account holder, you are not liable.

Account holder and a card holder are separate. Card holders can use the cards, account holders are liable for the bill.

  • Not your problem. The legal responsibility is solely on the first card holder unless it is a joint account.
  • Thanks so much for this info. We are having enough problems with her as it is.
He has received phone calls to his mobile and I have taken one call from the CC Company asking for her by name.
She has obviously passed this info onto the company as I cannot see how else they would get that info.
It was never a joint account but he was paying it before they split up and beyond as she was buying things for their daughter with it. He paid for the odd thing he put on it years ago.
Just wondered if they would chase him for the outstanding debt.
