Bleached Blonde/purple shampoo??

Hi all.
I am a natural redhead, and went to a bleached blonde 18 months ago, i have my roots done every 6 weeks. It always looks fab when leaving the hairdressers, but then it starts looking more yellowey/Orange as the weeks go on.
I always thought this was something to do with the natural red pigment in my hair. However i have just watched this morning and they have mentioned using purple shampoo and conditioner on bleached hair to keep it looking bright and vibrant and stop the brassy look. I had never heard of this before.
So question is does anyone use one of these products? and can you reccomend a good one? And one further thing i will be paranoid about it turning my hair purple, so any tips for use?
I'm off with my B/F on our hols next week and would like my hair to look a little less yellow than it does now.
Thanks.

Hi,
You can try Aveda Blue Malva shampoo and conditioner (purple shampoo and conditioner). Some salons sell this or you can try online. It can be a little pricey, so you could try the John Freida Sheer Blonde range, which you can get from Boots or the supermarket. Use regularly, and you should stay brassy-free!0 -
Another vote for Blue Malva - well worth the price, especially if you know someone who is going to the US!Gone ... or have I?0

Avon also do a shampoo for blondes (both natural and coloured), and that's purple. Got a bit of a surprise when I first tried it! Works ok tho' (although I'm a natural, rather than dyed, blonde, so don't know whether it makes any difference, but can't see why it should).0

It will make a difference cos you are a lucky natural blonde! It will keep your hair bright, but yours wouldn't be in any danger of turning brassy and thats the point of the purple shampoos/conditioners. It's to do with the opposite ends of the spectrum puple being opposite to yellow. It neutralises the yellow/brassy look bleached hair can take on after a week or two.0 -
Another vote for Aveda Blue Malva, my Mum uses it on her gray hair (can be used on blonde and gray hair) and everyone comments on how shiny and healthy her hair looks and she's 68.0

Lee Stafford's Bleached Blonde is good if you're after something you can pick up in Boots. Paul Mitchell (from hairdressers) is good too.Nicotine Free since 01.08.2010 :j:j:j

I've recently had my hair bleached platinum blonde too! My hairdresser, recommended Schwarzkopf Touch of Silver Shampoo. It's only about £2 a bottle from the chemist. I use it once a week, you shampoo with your normal shampoo, rinse, lather up with some of this stuff which is bright purple, leave it on for about 5 minutes, rinse and then condition as normal. I only use it once a week though as it can give hair a blueish tinge.
OP as you mentioned that you're going on holiday. If you're going to be swimming in a chlorinated pool have a shower and completely saturate your hair before you get in. This will stop your hair absorbing as much chlorinated water and therefore help to stop it going green.0 -
We used to use gentian violet for this, not sure if it is still available in the pharmacies. That is definitely something you need to dilute well though, about a teaspoon full in a basin of rinsing water.
It was used at university to dye hair purple when supporting big sports events, but washes out fairly well within a week or two. (Longer for bleached hair as it is more porous and absorbs the colour!)Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -
Thanks to all of you.
Well i popped to boots to get some of the sheer blonde stuff, but then i noticed the touch of silver shampoo and only £1.99, so a bargain, i have used it twice now and wow what a difference it has made.
As for swimming, well i go swimming 3 times a week for a few hours each time, and should i now be saying touch wood i have never had any green episodes with my hair. I refuse to wear a swimming hat, but i always drench it thorougly before i get in the pool and then rinse all the pool water out afterwards and come staright home jump in the shower and give it a good wash.
Now i shall be paranoid that one of these days i will get out of the pool with green hair..LOL0
