my mortage problem

I have a big problem i need a mortage but have adverse credit and in accordance to the experian report and financial advisor this is not because i have debt but because i sold my house and cleared my debt after a period of non payment though illness and the loss of my business (business was a ltd company and no charges where brought) i am now back in a job and we have a combined income of £46 k the house that i want to buy is less than double that amount . Anyboby any advice ps live in northern ireland and this seems to cause a problem with some lenders !!!
