Freezing Celery ??

Options
I am running down my fridge this week as I'm off on holiday next week and have quite a bit of celery in there I know I would have to eat it virually every day and I don't think I fancy that. Has anyone just chopped and open froze it on a plate, then bag it up .I thought I might do that rather than bin it then I could use it in soups and stews in the winter when I could add it as another veg.Anyone tried this at all?

    I've done it - it's fine in casseroles ;)

    Jackie,

I agree with Penny, its fine.Actually,I find it really useful to have some in the freezer over winter. Its only me that eats it raw,and I don't usually finish a whole head of celery,so freeze the rest chopped up for soup etc, timesaving too.Have a good holiday.

Another vote for yes here too. We regularly do this with celery. I also do chopped onion and leek as well as peppers and chillis ready for casseroles/soups/stews etc. Chop in bulk with food processor when cheap and open freeze.

We have a Veg soup on at the moment that is composed entirely of home frozen veg.

    (Including celery)
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Definitely, go for it. I think it's very useful as I have recipes that ask for just one/two sticks of celery which is very expensive in winter time.

I have 4 x ~100g portions of frozen chopped celery in the freezer right now, as I use it in soups and it was much cheaper to buy a complete head of it.

Just chop it up, divide it into portions and then freeze it in some water. Doing this means that the liquid freezing and expanding inside the cells of the celery is balanced by the water freezing and expanding around it.
