Hi Kerry re cheaper nappies my youngest has eczema and reacted to anything but pampers unfortunately.
When we are on a an economy drive I use a lot of wartime recipes..theres a whole thread on here by Thriftlady on wartime rations she posted some lovely recipes on there as well as a lot of useful tips from other posters.

We also grow a fair bit ourselves but its hard work when the kids are little as they do like to 'help' :D

I do a large Tesco dot com shop monthly which includes storecupboard items and laundry then top up as and when on milk and bread (and in our case strawberries *long story*) as needed through the week.

I can remember our worst time after we lost our home having a budget of £25 a week for food, nappies and sma..nappies were £9 back then and sma was 7. The kids were brought up on mountains of chicken legs, carrots, broccoli and potatoes and its still one of their favourites now. You'll get there just needs a bit of tweaking sometimes :D
Have you joined the grocery challenge? The posters on there are great when it comes to stretching things

Awww great stuff. It's so satisfying to think that you have made so many meals out of something that might have been thrown away. Warning: It gets addictive!
:D Skint but happy with my lovely family :D

Our elder dd who is 5 is great around the allotment/veg patch and is quite knowledgeable now, considering her age... Our younger dd who is 2 is still trampling the seedlings... whoops...! :rotfl:

  • Nappies- Ive tried both Sainsburys (DD was tony born and they do own brand premmie nappies) and Boots brand. Boots are really good and just the same as HUggies INHO
If you can save up £20 and buy £20 at once you get 10 points per pound back on your advantage card and the nappies are often 3 for 2 etc theres good savings to be made especially if your willing to sstock up. I wont bore you with the story on the Boots christmas event and my nappy buying. Others were buying toys and theres me and my mate with 2 trollies of nappies and baby milk.
In the 1st 6 months of having DD id saved up enough Boots points to buy her 2nd pushchair! I only buy from Boots whwen I cannot find a better offer elsewhere so the points are a bonus
I noticed your child has skin issues as does my son. If you speak to your Dr they should be able to give you the stuff he needs on prescription
If you need any more help do shout. My son had medication that makes his wee very acidic so as soon as he wees he needs changing so you can imagine how many nappies we use (hes potty training at the mo so thats a saving) I did try washables but they didnt seam to keep the wee off his skin as muh as the disposales
Mad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!
Aiming to loose 56 pounds this year. Total to date 44.5 pounds 12.5 to go. Slimming World Rocks!

Thanks for all the tips on the nappies-I stood in Sainsburys earlier-and because the pampers are on offer it worked out cheaper to buy them than their own brand. I do normally use boots but was in there to buy bicarb soda and baking powder.

Yes it IS addictive purple :o bought a whoopsie small cooked chicken for £2.25 at the co op, made mash and chicken(tonight), Chicken Tikka Masala-Tomorrows tea fo rme and DH(to be halved and frozen) spare chicken for kids tea tomorrow with rice and I have boiled up the carcass and made a lovely stock which will be made into soup-4 meals for £2.25 :D:money:

Getting into the swing of it nicely I think! Made 2 banana breads in my breadmaker with 39p whoopsie bananas half of which I have frozen-and now DH is telling me off because I am whinging for a chest freezer :rotfl:

I am definitely joining the grocery challenge next month :D
