Hi.
Have had an account of some nature with Nationwide since the age of 7 and have had my FlexAccount for 5 years. I have an overdraft of £1500 "reserved" for me, even though I only have a £250 overdraft. I just wondered if they have the same sort of system as some other financial institutions like Lloyds who have a marker to say if you are pre-approved for a financial product?
Not sure Nationwide Credit Cards are actually any good, but 3 months 0% purchases could be worthwhile around christmas this year as I am getting married, I would rather go with my own bank as I feel I would have a better chance of getting a card with them.:)

well they will still check your credit file i have been with em 4 years and got a gold card 2 yrs agoAqua card - £250 Limit up to date, Jd Williams £150 limit up to date, Argos store card £400 limit up to date, Next £300 limit up to date.:beer:0 -
I would guess yes, I have had a Flexaccount with them for about 6 or 7 years, and applied for a Gold card the other day. The acceptance and confirmation of credit limit was instant, which made me think I was perhaps already flagged as being eligible for that product.0

I have had my mortgage with them for 3 years and have never missed a payment.
I have a satisfied ccj issued march 2005 satisfied Sept 2005
I want to bank with them but they won't offer me anything other than a basic bank account, Does anyone know why they won't give me a bank account with a debit card yet they let me have a 120000 mortgage.
Help.
I have had a barclaycard initial for 6 months always paying off the full balance of around 500 ( I use it for business expenses).
When can i expect to get an account with Nationwide and a credit card with them as i am getting a promotion which will mean me travelling arount europe for 10 working days per month.0 -
like i say i find it strange that they will give me a mortgage but not a current account or credit card0

The mortgage is secured lending - you don't pay, they sell your house and get their money back. Also three years ago mortgages were very easy to get.
What is the rest of your credit file like? How many times have you applied for credit in the last six months? How many new accounts have you opened in the last 12 months?Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

My credit file only has the Satisfied CCJ on. I have just resigned a new agreement for a further 2 years with the Nationwide on my mortgage, I thought that as i have always made an over payment to it of £100 per month for those 3 years that it would help my credit file.
I have only had 3 searches on both of my credit files in the last 12 months, One for the bank account with nationwide, one for a barclaycard and one for my new mortgage deal by nationwide.
I think i am probably stuffed until next march when the satisfied ccj comes off my file, do they come off 6 years from issue or 6 years from when i satisfied it?0 -
Six years from the date it was registered
If the only credit history you have on your file is the Barclaycard (what accounts do you have listed there?) then you'll need to build up more history on it to be considered for mainstream. I think you'll be fine come March / April when the CCJ drops off as long as you hold off applying for anything else in the mean time and continue to operate the Barclaycard well.
It's not just the CCJ that's getting in the way from the sounds of things, but also the lack of credit historyCashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

cheers, I have spent years not even bothering to apply for credit as have thought the ccj would reject me anyway.
I also do have a phone with orange and my mortgage is on my credit file.
Do searches made for house insurance and car insurance get seen by lenders as there a couple of these , but from what i can see theey are just checks on who i am and not for credit purposes.
There are quite a lot of Satisfied accounts which appear on my account but all of them are late 04 and early 05 , so it will help me also when these disappear as well as i did have some 2's and 3's on these.0 -
The searches for insurance and quotations, identification checks, and the like don't affect your score and aren't seen by other lenders. Only "Credit Card" "Bank Account" "Telecommunications" etc are seen by other lenders.
I don't think the old accounts from 04/05 will have any impact on your score as long as they aren't defaulted as they are more than 36 months old, it's the most recent history that is most important and from what you've said, this is a bit sparse.
Once your CCJ drops off in March your Barclaycard account should be old enough to have build sufficient history to show you are credit worthy and you shouldn't have any trouble getting a current account wherever you want; just don't get apply happy in the mean time
Good luck!Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
