you are getting your wages on the stated day.....like you have said you have already changed your direct debits which is what i would have advised.

the bank may have told the employer it will be in the bank before 10am ...they can do this as when my other half was working for an employer we was told he would be paid before noon was usually around 8am though!

Yeah I can understand them saying by a certain time, but the fact they're saying between 9 and 10, it just feels weird. Maybe if you knew the company youd know what I mean lol...they're not exactly reliable...Im 34 weeks pregnant and not long ago was admitted to hospital due to pregnancy related problems duriong my hubbys night shift and when he phoned the supervisor he was told to "phone back when there was a real emergency", it turned out nothing was wrong, but I could have been losing the baby, luckily it wasnt actually anything serious in the end, but they thought at one point it was, and his work wouldnt let him leave...this including other stuff makes me not trust them as far as I could throw them!

We do exactly the same as your employer. We now pay our staff by faster payment instead of Bacs, but as the wages dont get processed until after 4.30pm they dont appear in the bank account of the staff until between 9am and 10am. Its something to do with when the bank processes the payments. If we processed the wages before 4.30pm then they would be in peoples' bank accounts some time early in the morning, the bank says around 4-5am. However because of the time it takes to process the wages they aren't ready for 4.30pm. I dont think your OH employer is trying anything fishy, but it is down to the vagaries of our banking system.

Thanks, you have cleared it up for me a bit now!!! I just know what they're like, and the fact they were going on about arrangements with the bank and muttering on like that, it soudned really fishy, infact I think its just that the boss didnt get the right info from HIS boss, and relayed the information incorrectly as he made it sound like the bank had said it would be anytime up to 11.59pm on payday before the wages were paid, and the company persuaded them to change it for them which didnt make sense to me and sounded really fishy!

Now you have cleared it up, Im more confident that they're not messing us around and trying to cover something up. Though they're only a small company, so I cant see why it takes them til 4.30pm to process the wages...! lol! At least I know why now, and know they're not messing us about!!!
  • oh and dhrarm999, do you know if its ever before 9am that the payments go into employers account, or is it always between 9 and 10am and never ealier? Just cause hubby finishes work at 8am and usually gets petrol on his way home from work so could do with knowing if theres any chance it would be earlier! :):)

Here's a suggestion: Why not make sure there's enough petrol to get home before setting off to work?

Christ, most of the problems people claim to have on this thread due to wages going in a couple of hours late are really, really easily avoided.

I worry for the future of this country sometimes...

HAHAHA Easier said than done that when you have had no wages since this time last month and all your petrol allowance has gone. How about you do one til you get the right sort of attitude for this site where people are trying to get help just to get idiots like you.

Not all of us can afford to keep £50 in the bank until payday to ensure we have money for petrol, infact we're lucky if we're not overdrawn at the end of the month let alone have money for petrol. My husbands red light is normally on for 2 days before payday, so that first top up is essential.

Wouldnt have said it otherwise would i.

You might want to check what will happen when the 8th of the month is a Saturday, Sunday or bank holiday.

I think a vast majority of people on this site know that it isn't easy saving money. However the point is you need to find a way one way or another to build up a buffer. As it is you appear to have been staying up through the night constantly checking your bank account because if the funds are an hour or two late you are in financial trouble. You can't keep living like this especially if you are pregnant, you seem to be getting very stressed over what is a legitimate arrangement the company has put in place. Sooner or later your partner is going to run out of fuel on the way to work and risk his job.

As Sue says what are you going to do if payment falls on a weekend? What will you do if your husband is ill and only gets paid ssp for a week? Please consider posting your statement of affairs (SOA) on the debt free wannabe board if you haven't already, and use the other resources on this site to save money and look at opening lines of credit to cover you in an emergency. What is your plan when the baby comes along and your expenses go up if you are living just a few hours away from a financial crisis now?

Having SO and DD to go out the day you get paid is maddness unless you have enough buufer funds to cover the payments.

It causes so much grieve if it goes wrong only once it is not worth it.

Leave a few days if your finances are tight.

Idealy a buffer of a full months wages eliminates any issues.
