I suffer from really itchy skin, have done for as long as I can remember. No obvious cause but it's been getting worse lately. Sometimes piriton helps but can anyone reccommend any natural remedies eg maybe a supplement etc? Or anything else that may help. Thanks!

Any gel with Aloe Vera does it for me. I suffer with hives occaisionally and use EcoSoothe. It cools your skin quickly. Used to buy from QVC, now buy it direct from their website (Ecotan.net). Its ttrying not to scratch thats the hardest part!!0

See your GP? If it's at all dry, then moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!Signature removed for peace of mind0

I take something called Quercetin to help with my chronic idiopathic urticaria (fancy name for reoccuring hives with no known reason, although almost certainly related to my autominune thyroid problem). I take antihystamines every day plus this and have manged to keep from having a bad flare up for some time. However I haven't got 'itchy skin' as such, I have sudden flare ups of these huge, hot, itchy weals.
I did lots of research before deciding what I was happy to put in my body to try and reduce the amount of antihistamines I take and decided that, for me, these were unlikely to do any harm but YMMV.
So please note this is not a recommendation really - just what I do, it could easily be a very bad idea for someone else - I am NOT a doctor and like the last poster says you would be wise to go and see your doctor before embarking on a self-help routine.0 -
Definitely see your GP, but in the meantime I find LUSH's Dream Cream really soothing for itchy skin.0

Really depends why its itchy, if its because of eczema or psoriosis or its as a result of dry skin, allergies or whatever, its one thing to treat the symptoms but if the problem keeps on happening, its likely you'll have to keep on repurchasing which could wind up expensive.
I use Eurax for most things, it works. Infact the only thing I have found it doesn't work for is psoriosis which can increase the itch there at times.
I get bites, I put on a product called "after bite" which is basicly a small amount of ammonia (trust me, you get as many bites as me, putting bleach on your skin seems like a Godsend!)
I also find taking antihystamine pills can help bring the itch down a bit, not take it away but it helps. These can be prescribed or bought in most supermarkets or chemists. One thing I would add though is to see which type works for you as they tend to have different active incredience which can mean a product works or doesn't work for you.0 -

I suffer with dry, itchy skin and the only thing that seems to settle it is Aqueous Cream, was recommended by my doctor and I've used it ever since which is about 5yrs now. It's also a reasonable price approx £2.99 ish.Grocery Challange for DH, Me & 2 Fussy Cats (inc Grocerys, Cleaning Products & Cat Food)G/C -May £177.04/£235.00 Apr £237.79/£235.00 Mar £226.16 /£235.00G/C - Jan £248.52/£235.00 - Feb£214.72/£235.00NSD -May 3/31 Apr 10/30 Mar 3/31 Feb 6/28 NSD Jan 3/310 -

I suffer with Urticaria (like HanSpan) and take strong antihistamines which usually sort it out, however before I was prescribed them a nurse gave me quite a cool little remedy (I have posted it on here before because I love it lol)
Put some ordinary porridge oats into the foot of a pair of tights and tie it tightly. Cut the rest of the leg off, and then take a cool/lukewarm bath or shower and use it like you would a sponge or flannel over the itchy area. A whitish creamy substance will start to be produced, this is really soothing on the skin and apparantly it is the natural version of the sorts of things used in oilatum and similar medicated lotions.
It really does work to soothe the skin (well it works on hives anyway) and is pretty cheap too!Ths signature is out of date because I'm too lazy to update it...
