Removal of CCJ - Job restricting!!

Hi all.
I'm being 'screened' for a new role in our company. I've had to go through this process which involves financial checks. Now I've already been upfront with them and told them that I'm on DMP with CCCS but no Bankruptcy,IVA or CCJs.
They've now came back with this:
Current XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, LEEDS, WEST YORKSHIRE, XXXXXX
MR XXXXXXX, XXXXXXXXX STREET, XXXXXX, LEEDS, XXXXXXX
Date: 28/07/2006 Court Name: NORTHAMPTON COUNTY COURT
Amount: £377 Case Number: XXXXXXX
Type: Judgment
Now I genuinely didnt know about this as I need to be more or less squeaky clean 'cos of work (Fin Servs) {Hasnt worked!!}.
Now I think this was down to my wonderful water utility company here in Yorkshire who I was in dispute over a bill years ago.
I've literally just phoned them about it - they've said that a CCJ was default judgement and even though I paid the £377 off - I didnt pay off the court fees immediately so it was not marked as satisfied.
They're now sending me a letter to say that it was.
Can I get this removed? This bunch of losers are gonna cost me my career for the sake of £377!! I cant believe it....
Any other advice?? Thx in advance.

Hi, once you've got the letter show it to your employer. I think you can only be up front with them, better not to get a job than suddenly be kicked out of it in future for not meeting the requirements, that would make it hard to get the references for another one.
Just show them the letter from the water company and explain that you got in to arrear and paid your debts but were late paying the court fees. Once they know what happened they might be fine with it (hard to say because the restrictions for people working in financial services are there for a reason and the company might make itself vulnerable if it didn't comply).
Good luck mateI'm a qualified accountant but please make sure you get expert advice as any opinion is made in a private capacity.

Thanks. I cant believe how a CCJ managed to slip in the back door without me realising? ...and for £377! How stupid of me.
Maybe my head was buried in the sand afterall?:(
Thing is I have been upfront about everything else, but this could look as if I was trying to conceal the detail.
I'll wait for the letter and see what they say.
Lesson learned for me.. and maybe for someone else?0 -
Someone continually overspending their salary and running up an ever increasing debt is actually a much greater risk to the company than someone who has had historic problems. In any case, there are actually very few jobs where it is a decision breaker though the whole business asks for this level of interrogation.0

Can you check that you had all the court paperwork and it was correct? They might be referring to the certificate of satisfaction? We had to pay £10 for one to get the judgement marked as satisfied (as I understood what I was told about 10yrs ago).Debt at highest: £8k. Debt Free 31/12/2009. Original MFD May 2036, MF Dec 2018.0

Ah, sounds like the so called fit and proper test to be an approved person. I believe this is with regard to "financial soundness".
Have a read of this.

I think the problem here is whether the debt was satisfied within a reasonable period. The FSA will give you the opportunity to address any concerns they may have regarding your financial soundness before approving of declining you. I think once you receive the letter you should be hopefully be able to explain the situation.
However, (assuming this is indeed a fit and proper test application) if your "Form A" has already been submitted and the CCJ was not disclosed then this may count against you as it goes against the test of honesty and integrity. Your best bet is to hope that the letter you receive, confirms that all your debts were satisfied on time."Dance like nobody's watching; love like you've never been hurt.
