I'd put something along the lines of "Please indicate whether you would prefer chicken or fish as your main meal"

    I'm just putting.....

Please indicate how many of each main course option you will be requiring
    Chicken ________
    Fish ________

Then people can write on the line how many of each.

I was doing what last poster said-the please write how many each but then I read somewhere that people may forget what trheyve asked for so to write it in their place card so there's no one forgetting and claiming someone elses food resultin in meals being short.
So the problem with asking for a number is you don't know who wants what unless they ask for the same meal so I'm bk to square one on this I have ideas wrote down but I'm stuck to the couch at the moment with a sleeping baby on me lol x

Thats exactly what I was just thinking!

I was going to get their requirements and put it discretely in pencil on the backs of the name places so people know what they will have...

I had the same problem and our venue have insisted on each person having their food choice on the place card.

    Heres what I did :

When I did my sisters' invitations, we had a menu slip for each guest (but it was only 20 guests, so much easier!) with their name on the top and then just tick boxes for them to indicate what they wanted.
Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??

  • We wrote people's choices on their place cards as I knew people would forget what they ordered. People came in, looked at their card and went *oh, that's what I'm having!*, obviously having forgotten.

Also, the hotel thanked us for doing it - apparently people don't write down what everyone's having when people have more than one item on the menu - and said it made it easier for them. It also helped the meal go smoothly as people were just chatting and getting their food, rather than the waiters asking people what they were having.

We went to a wedding a few years back and the vegetarian options had a little V in the corner of their placecards and if you were having chicken for example, there was a little silhouette of a chicken in the corner of your placecard! It was cute!

When I make RSVP's for people, I do something similar to Hayley's suggestion except to save space, I ask guests to write initals under the food option so you only need one line under each and can fit a few peoples intitals on each line.
