Credit check & Renting a property

I have a few credit cards which are in default, but need to move to another area, due to a job.
I need to rent a property, would my defaults show up on credit check, and prevent me from renting a place?
Is there any way around this?

Hi,
we'd previously had an iva, which means we "failed" the credit check, but they were fine as long as we paid an extra months rent in advance (we were extremley blessed in that a friend paid it for us)
But i think it depends on if u go private rented or through an agency
Good luck XXXIm not financially savvy as im still learning but i love to support anyone that needs it and give virual hug's and tea!!!Can't do Bickie's Sorry, need to lose weight!!!Challenge 1 : Sealed Pot Challenge, No : 810Challenge 2 : Dragon's wake up callChallenge 3 : Aug 8/15 NSD's0 -

yes.... i think so, the annoying thing with agency is the fees etc,
What about scoating local papers in the area to see any private landlords, althogh i suppose it depends on what ur looking for and any dependents etc.
As we have 2 teenage kids so quite choosey about area etc...Im not financially savvy as im still learning but i love to support anyone that needs it and give virual hug's and tea!!!Can't do Bickie's Sorry, need to lose weight!!!Challenge 1 : Sealed Pot Challenge, No : 810Challenge 2 : Dragon's wake up callChallenge 3 : Aug 8/15 NSD's0 -
An agency are more likely to do credit checks than a private landlord.0

If you have someone who is willing to act as guarantor then this could make things easier. It allowed me to rent through an agency and I am in a DMP.0
