RE: Unfair bank charges.

Hi, a few questions with regard to bank charges:

is the 8% interest claimable against them from the point of the unfair charge or the point you request a refund?

is HSBC or Capital One known to request you close your account after they give a refund? If they have has anyone tried to bring up the terms of the banking code in order to keep the account open?

do the same rules apply to other services (i.e. rejected direct debit request for mobile phone contract).

can you reclaim your costs (i.e. letter writing, DPA information request charges)

Sorry if any of these questions have been answered elsewhere but i couldn't find them! :) thanks in advance.

  • The 8% should only be added on when you file a court claim.

On the initial approach for repayment (the 1st letter) you just ask for the charges and any overdraft interest that those charges may have incurred.

The best thing to do is pop over to https://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk and have a read - everything you could ever want to know about claiming your charges (and some stuff you don't want to know!) is on there - that's where my info came from.

    Good luck.
