Thanks :D

I think the answer depends on your current dyed colour and natural colour.

If you pop into your local salon they will probably be able to give you free advice. You may well have to go back to your natural colour in a series of "stages" with wait time in-between each stage colour to prevent too much damage to your hair.

Go to a salon, this can be removed at home but you really can easily end up with cotton wool hair which then ends up needing to all be chopped off (meaning you wasted your money stripping it). A salon can do this properly and even then you will end up with damaged hair (just not to the same degree that it would have been if you were using a DIY kit.)

After you have had this done, use hair treatments and masques once or twice a week for a few weeks to get your hair back to some sort of normality. I would recommend Phillip Kingsley Elasticizer or Aphogee Protein duo (but beware, the latter really smells bad and the bad smell stays put for about 5 or 6 shampoo+condition washes!) coconut oil after every wash can also help. If you use the Aphogee, do not use more then once every 6 weeks or you can end up with brittle hair which falls out!

It can be done but its a damaging process, make sure you take care with whatever you decide!
  • Head and Shoulders shampoo is supposed to do the job. I was told recently that putting head and shoulders on dry hair and leaving it overnight is pretty effective.
  • thank you for all replys i will try head and shoulders but if not i will have to go to a salon i didnt really want to spend much money

Head and Shoulders will not touch long term colour, it will only fade a relatively recent colour.
    Gone ... or have I?

Head and Shoulders will fade colour loads, but believe me, it won't remove it.

There is nothing on earth that will remove colour and your hair is back to virgin hair. For a start even if you remove the colour, whcih a fully qualified hairdresser can do, you will be left with stripped hair, where the ammonia in the colour has opened the cuticles to let the colour in, and as this has been done constantly you're already left with damage.

what your hairdresser can do is strip the existing colour out, colour match your natural hair from your regrowth, (you must allow regrowth for this to be done) then re-colur hair in your natural colour which you can then leave to grow with not a lot root showing.

All of this advice does however depend on what shade is on your hair , eg darker, lighter? How long your hair is? There are a couple of really good professional products on the market, this really isn't something you can do yourself.

By the way i am a hairdresser, not just a know it all LOL

Please visit a reputable salon, and expect to pay but it'll be worth it in the end:j

colourb4 in boots, tried it but be warned it will lift it to gingery if you have bleach in your hair.
