Do I have to give more notice?

I have worked part time for a year and 5 months. I have no contract.
I have been lucky enough to get a new job, I will give a weeks notice if the boss doesn't kick off but do I have to give any more by law?
I must mention this current job is a nightmare, the boss shouts and is verbally abusive, and the woman who does the other days is lazy and I get left with 90% of the work to do.
Thanks in advance

No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Indeed, one week's notice. The fact you do not have a contract is worrying, but hopefully the new role will be much better!:)*** Thank you for your consideration ***0

So I have to give one weeks notice?
I know I have always asked for one, but because I had no other job to go to I couldn't leave until now :0)

This point is constantly brought up, you DO have a contract even if you have not signed one because you turn up and do work. If there is no contract then generally it is one weeks notice per completed year as statutory. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

Just to clarify, Googlewhacker meant that the increasing notice period statement is about the notice to which an employee is entitled. The notice an employee has to give does not increase beyond one week (unless it is in their written terms and conditions).0
