I picked one up today, how long does the rice take to cook?

Instructions are a bit vague for me having never used one. Have I got this right. measure rice in the cup and only use the marking for the water from the pan itself?

Flick it to on, only seems to have one setting even though shelf edge label said 3.

How long does it take to cook, do I use cold water or should I be using boiling water?

    Many thanks for any advice.

measure 1 cup of rice per person, then add 1 cup of water for each rice plus 1 extra cup. add about 1/4 tea spoon of salt per cup plus couple of table spoon of oil. switch on it normally takes 20 minutes for 2-3 cup of rice,

Just 1.5 cups of cold tap water for every cup of rice. You can try this amount, inspect the fluffiness of the cooked rice and then you will get a feeling of how much water is optimal. [STRIKE]The rice cooker will automatically shut off when the rice is cooked, so no need to open and inspect whether the rice is done or not.[/STRIKE] Usually it will take about 30 mins for the rice to cook, depends whether you have Basmati rice or long grain rice.

I do not add salt or oil though, I cook plain rice. HTH.

Sorry for the misinfo: This model of rice cooker does not have auto shut-off mechanism.

  • I always rinse the rice till the (cold) waters clear..... gets rid of the starch. HTH Also use cold water to cook it in for best results.

Well I had a go tonight for tea.

It's great! Really surprised how quickley the water started to boil. I thought I should not open the lid but next time I will to give it a stir at the end, I did get a layer at the bottom a bit stuck and brown during the keep it warm stage.

Nice to be able to walk away and not worry about it boiling over or going dry.

    Great for the £6 odd.

I also wash my rice to get rid of the starch but I use the ''Chinese'' finger method of measuring the amount of water
