Trying to find a new job

Hi,
I currently work in IT earning 23k a year but I really dislike my job and don't want to work in IT anymore. I am willing to take a huge paycut and start the beginning again as all my qualifications won't help in the industry I am trying to get into - The Motor Trade.
I am after a job at a local garage but want to know what the best way of trying to get a job is? Is it a good idea to write to a selection of local garages and see if anything happens?
Thanks in advance
James

Hi James,
I'm in the same position, different industries but want a complete change of career (with respective pay cut!).
With something like the motor industry I would be tempted to do your cv and actually take it in to the garages. If you send in your cv it is in danger of going straight in the bin, but if you go in it shows you have made the effort, and hopefully will mean that if a position does come up in the future, they will remember you.
Do you know anyone who currently works in the industry? If so, it's always a good way to get a foot in the door?
Have your local college got any relevant courses you could do? This also tends to be a good way to make contacts.
Good luck! xGone ... or have I?0 -

Hey,
I know the mechanic who owns the local garage but I am unsure on how to approach him. It would be perfect for me to work there as its very local and he seems like a nice bloke.
There is a college quite near who have an evening course starting in a couple of days but I won't be able to register in time and the next one starts in Jan.
So you think approaching him in person would be the best idea?Saving for a deposit: £20,551 / £25,000 - 82% of the way there...0 -

Good luck!Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0 -
Definitely, go for it. Just explain that you are looking for a career change, that obviously you don't expect to be on the same money as you are now (this is a concern that prospective employers are having with me at the moment), and how much you want to work in the motor industry (and why!).Gone ... or have I?0
