in Credit cards
hi guys
i tried to apply for a phone contract (new iphone
) on saturday. gave the guy in the shop my details, he says to me "oh... youve been a victim of impersonation... im gonna need more verification off you.." so i went home and got my passport driving license etc..
i go back 20 mins later and he does a credit check on me... "its been refered, come back in 30 mins and well see how it went.." so i return 30mins later.. he says "sorry mate but youve been turned down cos of a bad credit rating..."
now the confusing thing is i dont have a clue why? i have one credit card (£750 limit) which i got 4 years ago, did a balance transfer with it for £700 when i got it (only used it that once) and just paid back the minimum payment by direct debit every month since. just checked it (cos i just forgot about it.. i knew it was being paid off and werent really concerned about it) and i owe £460 still.. ok no problem..
i also have 2 debit cards (santander and barclays..) had the santander/abbey card for about 12 years, barclays about 3 months.. i use the arranged overdraft on the abbey regularly (is this bad for my credit rating?) and never go over on the barclays account although that too has an arranged overdraft.
im on the electoral roll and rent an appartment. i check my credit report and all looks ok.. all green and ticks... one thing i noticed was my current electoral roll registration doesnt have my date of birth on but my previous address does have my d.o.b. on it.. cause a problem?
regarding the "impersonation" thing... the only thing i can think of that it could be is i once tried to access my poker betting account online.. it wouldnt let me log in and told me to call customer services.. i called her she said "yes someone tried to deposit £1000 from your bank account into your betting account so we stopped you logging in to confirm it was you..." it wasnt me and we agreed it was someone trying it on and she reopened my poker account... would this be the cause of me having problems with my credit rating?
cant see anything about this impersonation thing on my credit report. would it be somewhere else? got my report on equifax.
many thanks for anyone that read all that.. im so upset.. i thought i would have a good rating seeing as i always set up direct debits and never miss payments..
any help would be great!

This may be a CIFAS marker (google for full information).
You are best getting copies of your credit file and checking them out - go to Experian, Equifax and Callcredit (the 3 main UK credit reference agencies) and request a copy of your credit report. You can order it online for £2 - do NOT purchase the "£70 a year" plans - they're generally not worth it.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. one thing i have just noticed on my report is that all my currect accounts dont have any figures in them.. doesnt say how mauch ive got in my account at the min... they all just say £0.. my egg credit card is the only thing to have any numbers in it says about the -£460 i owe.
is this the same for everyone or does everyones say £0 for some reason (ie they cant get access to my current accounts balance)???
thasnk
ps also noticed it doesnt have any mention of my santander/abbey account (that ive had for 12 odd years). just my barclays and old (dis used) hsbc account.0 -
Your current account balance will never be shown on your credit report, only your overdraft if you use it....0

Hi, I am having the same problem as you. I have a credit card and my limit was reduced by £3000. My credit card account with Santander sent me a letter with two credit check companies, experian and credit check. Both agencies hold the same information about me, that is all my accounts are settled satisfactorily or paid up on time every month. My credit checks are covered with green ticks or settled account. Yet Experian say i have a good credit score (900) which is respectable on a scale on 1 - 990, 990 being excellent and credit check gave me a 1 star rating which according to their definition means that i will struggle to get credit as i am really bad. I have had to pay for the privilege of being told this information. I have written to credit check and still not received a satisfactory answer. I am concerned that as i need to remortgage in feb 2011 and am worried that this will affect the deal i can get.0

hi jane
i got my credit report of equifax. doesnt give me a score like you got from experian. what other info do experian give you, does it say what things have reduced your score at all?
think i might try them out if they do.
many thanks!0 -

Experian/Equifax scores are NOT credit scores. Save your money. Don't pay for them. In fact, send me £5 and I will give you a score of 999999.0 -
@PeterPieper123
Sometimes you are turned down for credit because you don't match the profile of the type of customer they want. Companies are under no obligation to offer you credit. Quite often, when you are turned down, companies will just say there is a problem with your credit history (or rating) when there isn't really. I guess they think it sounds nicer than we don't want you as a customer.
As long as your credit history is correct and has electoral role and previous address information don't worry. And don't pay good money for useless scores.

i remebered last night that i got a letter a few years ago from HM customs saying that i owed some national insurance cos i was off work for a while and didnt go on the doll. like £60, it said i had til 2018 or something to pay it.. would this effect my credit rating??
also regarding me noticing that it didnt have my main current account on my credit report... so would that cause a problem for my rating?
thank you guys.... getting more and more upset with all this.. if i could just know the reason i would get it sorted straight away, but its the no knowing whats wrong thats annoying.0
