  • sorry for being a naive numpty, what's a SAR request?

You know what.. despite the ensuing argument this caused and the ongoing anger of my partner, I actually feel vaguely elated that it's finally out in the open and that I have to do something about it. Feels like a weight's been lifted already, no more skulking about and worrying about how I'm going to deal with it.

Subject Access Request. It basically asks them to provide all the information they have on you.
Can we just take it as read I didn't mean to offend you?

Good news - yep she might be angry with you but if you are making efforts to sort it... she'll soon come round.

her biggest concern was would we be able to get a mortgage if I have debts that are statute barred??

Your credit rating is based on your credot record, which cover your financial record for the previous 6 years. By defination, any dbet that is statute barred because you have not paid it for more then 6 years is not on your credit record and cannot affect your credit rating.

and what's the likelihood that a debt for say loans and credit cards would get a CCJ? do they reserve CCJ for more important things like electricity bills, council tax, etc.? or am I likely to have been stitched up with a CCJ when I wasn't reading my mail?

Quite possible, although you could get the CCJ overturned if you were not living at the address to which the CCJ was sent. Nothing to stop the comapny then trying to re-issue the CCJ if this was done in the last 6 years, but you might be able to pay it off before it went back on your record.

This is why you need to check the Registry Trust on-line.

  • Hi RAS, thanks for the info! Always appreciated and very helpful

The good news is that I'm not sleeping on the sofa!...

A quick question RE: the registry trust, if I apply for information, is this going to be another flag to alert creditors to my whereabouts? Given that the advice so far has been that if I've not got creditors / dca's sniffing for payment since I added myself to the electoral roll, then it's safe to say I've kept off the radar for a while... I'd rather keep it that way (but in doing so, leave myself in the dark as to the status of those debts)

So if checking the registry trust will flag up my whereabouts, I'd rather keep off the radar for a while longer!

    No

the Registry trust is a public database that anyone can access. Not like a credit check at all.

Be careful with the registry trust, I wasted £8 checking my file with them as I checked my current address not my previous address - if you think you may have a CCJ, try to recall at which address before doing it - otherwise like me, you'll have wasted £8 :(
