Old Debt with Intrum Justitia

Hi everyone, I am a long time user but this is my first post. I hope some one can help me with a question.
Over seven years ago I had a Mint card which I defaulted on to the amount of 6k. :o
Eventually, RBS passed the debt to Intrum Justitia and I have been paying off at £75 a month since then. Intrum rang me about a year ago offering to knock about £300 off if I paid up but I couldnt afford it then. The debt is now down to just under £900.
I now have some money saved up and was thinking of paying this debt off. Would it be worth offering a small amount as a full and final settlement figure?

    Hi Dan,

Seems like a very good idea to me. Write to them offering them £300 final settlement and then up it £100 every time they reject until they accept. Make sure at the final payment that you have written confirmation that it is in full and final of the debt.

    Good luck!

    Hi DannyB,

As the other user has said, write to them and make them an offer. Although I would start lower than the recommended £300 and see how you get on (I'd offer 20% which is less than £200). They may come back with a counter offer and you can then make a counter offer. However, if you agree on a settlement figure you are both happy with, make sure you get their offer in writing and it states that the payment is as full and final settlement for the debt. This is to ensure that they or no other company can come after later for the remaining balance.

    Good luck
If you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.
