I would try and look elsewhere. I have heard that banks within the same group can sometimes be difficult and try to take payments on behalf of each other.
I am with Natwest and have a step account with them. Very good. Get a Visa Debit Card, Good Online Banking and can set up Direct Debitsadde parvum parvo magnus acervus erit
Add a little to a little and there will be a great heap

I would suggest going somewhere that has no ties at all to TSB, just to be on the safe side. I have heard good things about Co-op basic account if you have one near you, and don't believe they are tied in with anyone else.0

Co-Op, to the best of my knowledge, aren't in a banking group with anyone. They also seem to be a fairly good one for we the indebted. I personally am with Halifax, who are definately in a group with Bank of Scotland (HBOS), so it would be a little surprising to find Lloyds-TSB in it too. I think perhaps your son in law might be thinking of Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) because Bank of Scotland (BOS) aren't the same bank. Confusing eh.
When it comes to basic bank accounts they're all much of a muchness, getting any of them opened is a better idea than worrying that one over there has a bit better terms but is in the wrong group. As nuts as it sounds your bank can indeed steal from you if you also have a credit card with them, they call it setting off. There's an article about it here>> http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/setting-offI refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)
As of the last count I have cleared [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt.

Lloyds TSB is part of Bank of Scotland / Halifax now I do believe.
I have a Co-op basic account and whenever I've had to speak to them they've always been really friendly and helpful, so I would recommend them.
Edit: Just re-read Hannah_10's post above, and I think I am confusing RBS and BOS too lol::: Total Paid Since LBM (27/05/10): £4639.85 Official Debt Gone!! :T ::::AThat money talks, I don't deny, I heard it once, it said "Goodbye"~ VSP2011: #104 ~

RBS and BOS are a total confusion zone aren't they!
If in doubt bypass the lot and look elsewhere.I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.

Lloyds TSB are definately apart of the (H)BOS Group.
I am on a DMP with and Natwest is part of RBS (totally different). I also have big debts with Lloyds and I have had no problems.
There is a link on this site somewhere that informs of which banks are linked maybe someone can post the link.adde parvum parvo magnus acervus erit

Do you mean "a part of" or do you mean "apart from"... Sorry to sound like a spelling pig, I don't mean to but I really don't want to get you wrong, it's a total minefield with banking groups.I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
