What 'healthy' company benefits would you value most?

More money
My company are pretty terrible, they offer no fringe benefits at all, anymoney spent is spent in extracting as much labour out of us as possible0 -
We have a therapist coming in to do massages once a month, foc to us.
But health insurance is a benefit in kind and needs declaring, employees would have to pay more tax as a result.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I am not sure I want a company dictating my health options.
The other issue is finding something that all can benifit from
looks like the gym is a waste of money allready
Anything that reduces stress
Flexable hours
Work from home.
Easy processes for things like expences
More holidays.
All benifits optional from a menu with salary as an alternative0 -
Frankly, i wish companies worked on reducing & dealing with stress more and less on health (since stress can really impact your health)
I like the Nintendo Wii idea.. set up with some of the sports games it's a good (and inexpensive for the company) idea. Maybe some punchbags

Our HR Manager is looking at similar options internally. We have recently introduced fresh fruit which is quite popular, but one other thing which nearly the entire company signed up for was a health screening date. This was conducted by a company called Healthy Performance and was done off-site to keep it confidential.
Each person had a 45 minute slot and had various things checked - i.e. blood pressure, cholesterol, lung capacity, flexibility/balance and so on - and received a customised report identifying areas of improvement. Our HR Manager also received a report summarising the overall health of the company.
In addition the company did a seminar on overall health (including stress management) which was interesting.0 -

The only idea we can come up with so far that might actually be used by people, is straightforward and can be beneficial from the desk is the fresh fruit idea.
However, we're looking for novel ideas too!! I thought the free fruit was a good idea, but anything 'outside the box' would be more like it. We are thinking about installing a Nintendo Wii on each floor, but we think this will end up being misused?

You mentioned that nobody used the gym programme as it was too complicated. Is there any way of simplifying that or finding a way to have a membership push?
As with my reply about a cycle scheme the whole idea has to be thought through. A box ticking exercise or trying to come up with "quirky" ideas just for the sake of it is pointless IMHO.0 -
One company I worked at had a free fruit day once a week, and each week was a different type of fruit, so people got to try new things. Everything was always split into a portion i.e. the grapes came in a cup, and anything like mango, pineapple, grapefruit etc... were pre-diced and put in containers and supplied with a tooth pick so they could be eaten at the desk.
A subsidised healthy lunch always goes down well.
How about a reduction on home gym equipment???
A room full of space hoppers so workers can bounce round on them for exercise?
A gym on site (rather than cheap gym membership)?
Free yoga class after work.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Gym on site is a great benefit. I still miss ours

Getting a bit late in the year, but even something as simple as some picnic benches outside can help encourage people to have some fresh air at lunchtime.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Free fruit, yoga classes before work for those who wanted to attend,
if possible having access to free showers will encourage your staff to cycle to work as they won't have to worry about being smelly all day.
Free badminton lessons? I know someone whose employer books out the badminton and tennis courts at the local gym once a month so that staff can play and get some tips from a coach. It's after work so doesn't interfere with work time and no one feels pressured to go but everyone seems to enjoy it and it has an added benefit of making the workforce gel a bit better.0
