3 Network and Red

My partner has had several phone calls and now a letter regarding a debt with 3 Network.
Over 6 years ago, a friend of hers got a phone and contract from 3, but couldn't pay the £10 delivery charge.
So my other half paid on her debit card. She explained on the phone the situation, and she was in no way connected with the contract. The 3 employee agreed and said he'd note that on the account.
A friend who works for Royal Mail, mentioned that he had seen letters in my partners name, going to an address similiar, but not exactly, her friends address. These were undelivered due to "no such place"
Her friend has not responded to my partners emails to sort it out.
Now Red/Lowell have the debt, and are chasing my partner.
Any advice please....

If you didn't make a payment in the last 6 years, then the debt is statute barred, so they can't chase you for this debt, send them a proove itf letter to start with, and sit back and wait for the response, do not contact them over the phone, so if they call you, tell them to send you contact trough trough the snail post.,

If the contract is in the name of the friend, then this is not her debt, and she does not have to pay it.

Paying for a debt, does not make you liable for it. Only the account holder is liable for the debt, as it was the account holder that agreed to the contract.

As such, reply back to the debt collector with the prove it letter. - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11570893&postcount=2

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies

Thanks all...I think the confusion lies in the fact that when 3 network sold the debt, they used my partners name, which should have been removed as she only paid for the p&p for the free handsets on the contract. We have copied the proof letter, and will send it off first thing tomorrow...Thanks again..
