My OH is training to be a joiner and is on about £30 a day. When his last car insurance payment comes out (for a car someone wrote off in June  ), and he gets a payrise (hopefully) it will be so much easier.
We agreed when we moved in that I'd pay for all the bills etc, and he would buy food. It started off fine until his pay was getting messed around. Poor thing feels so bad that I have to work so much and deal with everything but he does all he can and I'd rather he was earning a little and learning, than going to uni and costing us a fortune!
I'm going to set up standing orders tonight so that he'll be paying a teeny bit every week into my account to help out.
I'm having a good day today - got a delivery of all DS's birthday presents. Cost me £26.50 for lots of bits and pieces from https://www.nurseryandtoys.com. So now just Christmas to sort out for him but we're just getting him a little table and chair from Ikea. I also got some stuff from Vertbaudet today that I bought using codes so that was all free. Ordered a birthday present for our 3yr old neighbour, £8 on Amazon for two nice presents.
We've also managed to get a free day out this weekend thanks to OHs old boss - we're off to Woodfair 06 which is some sort of agricultural/wood trade show. It will get me out the house which I desperately need!
Hey again!
One day though, our OH's will be making so much money with their skills this hard work will seem ridiculously worthwhileso i'm hoping. My OH was on £30 a day for 4 months (which would have been ok had we not decided to move in together then. I'm on 17k but we live and work in London). It's all about the forward planning! By thinking ahead like you have done with your little one's birthday presents you can keep everything on an even keal and have enough dosh for everything you need
Have fun at woodfair - sounds just the sort of thing mine gets excited about. Odd eh

I used to have an Alliance and Leicester account but left them due to ongoing problems with the service. I just realised they used to charge me about £50 a month in charges so I could claim that back from them if I got my old statements.
If you get the 0% card and there's enough space transfer the store cards and credit cards - don't spend on the 0% card. Sometimes the following statement will have a few £s of interest to pay off - pay this off and cancel the cards - this will improve your credit rating for when you need to apply for another card and do another transfer. You could ask the 15% one to reduce your interest rate and put it in a drawer for emergencies. Some people put the card in a cup of water and stick it in the freezer - so they have to wait for it to defrost before using it making sure it's only used for genuine emergencies.
If you only get a £500 limit - put the store cards on first and what you can of the CC.
I'm sure there are other banks that offer 0% overdrafts for an introductory period - sorry I can't recall which.0
