Also see if you can pay your Council Tax over 12 mths instead of 10.

my oldest child will be going to school and i only work 4 hours a day so can pick him up and drop him off with no after school fees although would still have to pay for babies childcare.

Well you would be no worse off than you are now. Your oldest will be going to school so you will save the £240 nursery fees. Then you will just be paying this (£240) out for your youngest child. So the fees would still be the same, hence you would be no worse off, if anything you will have more money because you would be bringing in a wage. Plus if you contact CTC you may recieve more benefit because you will then have two children.
  • he cant start school until september 2011 as he is only 3, if i were to go back to work in May which is when my 9 months paid maternity ends i would have to pay for him to go to nursery as well as the baby xx

  • until he can start school in sept 2011. Also his nursery is only £240 as i only pay for him to go half day plus he gets 3 hours of childcare free as he is 3. For the baby they wont allow half day as i work past 12 midday and i will get no free hours, im looking at around £400 childcare for that baby when it comes and thats just for a childminder:(
  • brilliant idea with the council tax, im sorting that now to spread over 12 months and thanks for the cheap family recipes xxx
  • Oh ok, I read your post as he goes to school this September. In that case I would reevaluate the situation in May, as thats a long way off. Just now your prority is to try and overpay your debts and reduce your outgoings. Sorry I can't be of anymore help :o

Also see the table of accounts here:

Make sure it is a bank with which neither of you have any debts.

That will save you another £15 per month.

  • Thanks everyone you are all fab, i know i've got myself into this mess as even though my amount of debt is small, if i had that spare each month things would be so much easier!. I guess i shouldn't be having a baby or getting married either but it's kind of too late to change anything now.

I guess i should feel lucky that i can at least scrape together the amount i need to cover the bills as some people cant even do that but im ready to step up and try to change our circumstances or make sacrifices so things can be a little easier for us x
  • Hi Suziebear. Is there any possibility of earning extra money e.g overtime (your partner) or anything unwanted things you can ebay? I would definately look for cheaper contact lenses- I used to pay £18 a month but have picked up a three month supply online for £27
