It still annoys me that I went for years with a full mortgage at relatively high interest rates and then when I pay it right down, I end up with a tiny mortgage on a tiny interest rate

One of the reasons I sold my house (one of the minor ones) was that interest rates were said to be going upwards .... if I'd stayed put the house would have been worth about £50-60k less by now, but the mortgage would have been about 2/6d!It still annoys me that I went for years with a full mortgage at relatively high interest rates and then when I pay it right down, I end up with a tiny mortgage on a tiny interest rate
Edit: I just checked, IO, which it was, would have been about £150/month, for a 5/6 bed house - compared to renting locally a 1-bed flat for £500-600/month.0 -
As a % of household net pay:
1) Rent 18%
2) Other household 7%0 -
No mortgage now. Looking backwards, I don't know how we survived!

Actually you could have got a few lodgers in and not had to work  Why did you buy a 6 bed house?'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. I haven't got any mortgage or rent to pay but I resent paying £120 a month in council tax for some f*cker to take my rubbish away once a week."The problem with quotes on the internet is that you never know whether they are genuine or not" -

I haven't got my own laptop with me this evening so I can't be sure what my total net income is but a "back of envelope" calculation says my rent is about 30% of it. It used to be a higher % a few years ago.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
