A&L Current Account holder.

On their online *anking facility it is 'possible' to make instant transfers out to other accounts.

Only they don't tell you what the maximum is before it 'defaults' to a 3 day BACS transfer and doesn't give you a chance to 'go back' before commiting yourself.

Today I transferred, well thought I transferred, £250 by same day quick transfer facility. Actually I know from the past this is/was their daily max - pathetically low, anyway this amount was accepted.

I then tried an experiment. I set up another quick transfer for £1 just to see if they had raised their daily limit yet. This was also accepted.

I then checked the receiving bank for deposits and would you believe it!? Of course the £1 had arrived and the £250 had not. In other words the £250 is now being sent by BACS even though there is/was NOTHING on the A&L site to inform me of this.

Nice touch/trick A&L the lower amount gets sent and the higher amount goes by BACS even though the site pretends they have both been accepted for same day transfer.

A&L, Santander, Customer Service and Facilities = quite useless:eek:

Now if I REALLY needed that £249 differential that A&L tricked me out of by having a substandard web/online transfer facility. At least be honest you idiots.

And yes it can be done as anyone using the Halifax online bank transfer system will know, tells you clearly if the payment will be sent immediately or by BACS AND gives you (the customer) the option to cancel the transaction unlike A&L.

Will I tell A&L, nah not worth the phone call cost.

Byeeee, to A&L soonish.

  • Just read a report that Sanatander have the most complaints made against them of any UK bank. Can't think why:cool:

Now back to Faster Payments (sic); Santander's own website states:

"To start with we will have lower limits. These limits may change at any time without us telling you".

Why can't Santander have a little message on their online banking when the customer logs in saying for example: The daily limit for faster payments is £5, or £20, or £200 or £10,000!! i.e. whatever it is on the day; why won't Santander tell you!!

Entirely reasonable and useful info IMO.

Clearly Santander want to hold on to their lowest customer satisfaction ranking (and your money apparently).

Every time I see a Santander market leading current account, savings account or ISA I just think nah, not worth the hassle.

I only keep my A&L/Santander current account for the free european travel insurance which if you fail to fund the account in any month with the minimum amount of £500 becomes nul and void, hmmm great for peace of mind (not).

Does anyone know what the current daily FP limit is with Santa? It has been £250 for a while but I read somewhere it's now £300 (maybe thats only on any Friday the 13th's though just to keep us on our toes.

Santander offer good rates but treat their customers with contempt.

Anyone know of any bank that has a lower daily FP limit than Santander?

    Whinge over:)

Faster payments was one of the main reasons we left Santander (from having an A&L account) last year. There is no logical reason why after the FP being available for so long that the limit should still be £250.

We now bank with Barclays and the limit is £10,000. If they can do it...
Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.

  • Santander. They don't make beer, but if they did it would be the worst beer in the world. Probably.

I sent £250 earlier today by Faster Payment to an external a/c from Santander. So far so good.

An hour ago I set up a second FP of £250 which went through the FP process without a hitch, i.e. it showed as a FP just as earlier today.

As the money didn't arrive in my external a/c I just checked Santander a/c and it now shows as a Mandate so it's going by 3 day bacs transfer even though their on screen display asked me to Confirm the Faster Payment (sic).

Joker's. It must still be under £500 a day FP but of course it's a SECRET what the daily limit is because as they say they don't have to tell you what the daily limit is, followed up by erroenous onscreen information misleading customers into believing a FP is CONFIRMED when it isn't.

Also not possible to cancel the scheduled Mandate now! Snookered.

    Well done useless Santander:A
  • FP never works online sadly
Have to get the useless CS to do it but even that is a pain
  • I just phoned them today, I was told that they may allow a faster transfer of up to 'about £300' but it is still not guaranteed to go through! It apparently depends on how often and how much you have previously transfered to the account you are trying to make the faster payment too.

They even had the cheek to tell me that i could transfer the cash in one day via a CHAPS transfer and that it would cost me £25 for the privilage of getting my own money from one account to another of my accounts!

I am closing my account and complaining to the ombudsman.
