    I've been Money Tipped!
I have just replaced all of mine with ones by James Martin, Got them from TK Maxx, bought one a while ago and it's really good so replaced the rest with them. I paid £14.99 for a set of 3.
  • I love our John Lewis own branded ones. I buy one as and when I am in the shop (once a quarter), so I slowly build up a nice set.

TK Maxx is definitely the place to go.

We picked up a set of 5 Sabatier knives including a bread knife in their own wooden block for £20 last year. Really good edges on them and still sharp despite dishwashing and general abuse.

You don't really need a set. Just get a decent quality cook's knife and that'll do virtually all kitchen jobs. I got a Henckels cook's knife from TK Maxx which cost about £13 if I remember rightly. Then all you need is a steel or, if you're not comfortable with using one, a knife sharpener like this.

    Agreed.

I bought a Victorinox chef's knife after reading chef's discussing their preferences in a cooking forum a little while ago. Whilst, understandably, most seemed to own very expensive knives, there was a strong endorsement for the Victorinox as a cheaper, reliable workhorse - particularly the ones with the fibrox handles. The general theme was that these knives were exceptional quality for a great price. If I remember correctly, I paid £12 for an 8" Chef's knife and much prefer it over more expensive Sabatiers I had been previously using.

Is Kitchens a high street store or internet shop? Do you have a link?
