Would you put (fake)leather beanbag cover in washer?

Options
Hi guys,

I have this fake leather beanchair thing that my cats kindly peed on some time earlier this year and since we weren't using the thing very much at the time, I wiped it down and put it away to sort out later. It's now quite wiffy and we'd like to be able to use it through the autumn/winter (it's lovely for snuggling up on the floor with a big pile of blankets and a child or two). I can't face the thought of scrubbing away at it only for it to still smell as it's been left so long. I'm thinking of putting it in the washing machine in a 'kill or cure' attempt to get it usable again. I've never washed anything like this material before, but have a bit of a reputation in my family for putting anything in the washing machine and thus far everything has survived lol.

What do you reckon, is it likely to just be destroyed or do you think it would survive a cool wash?

Thanks for any tips!

Kimberley x

I would think on a very gentle wash it would be fine - mind you I believe if its try washing or throw it away cos its too dirty or too smelly...then yu have nothing to loose really lol
I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I Know

def worth a try....just pick the coolest, quickest programme your washer does.

Why not bung it in a bath with some Dreft or Lux flakes and stick a small child on top to pummel the life out of it .My mum used to do that with us kids when we were small with blankets in the summer.I would worry in case the bag split in the washing machine. If it split in the bath its easier to clear up.In a machine it could do a lot of damage.
  • Cat pee is very potent (even worse if it's from a male!), but one thing that breaks down the compounds that make it smell is vinegar. get yourself some of the really cheap stuff (e.g. 13p a bottle at Sainsbury's and leave that on it for a few hours (or even better a day or 2), then clean it. I'd rater just do it in the bath).

I just dealt with a cat spray last week on the carpet - I just poured on vinegar (the more expensive white in this case as it was a pale carpet), left it there to dry, and after 2 days of dissipating vinegar smell, it now smells as fresh as a daisy.

Ohhh no, the bag unzips and a seperate section with the beans in comes out. I wouldn't be thinking about putting the whole thing in the washer, even I'm not that daft  !

Good tip and I do have a couple of bottles of cheapo vinegar knocking about. I think I'll wait for a fine day then leave it in the garden for a day with a nice vinegar bath. But then will probably give it a cool gentle wash too as the whole thing smells a bit foisty now as it's been living in the porch.

Well, give it a go and let us know how it works out. Usually I wouldn't risk it with something like that, but since it has cat pee on it....
