Hair colour question

I went to a new hairdresser and instead of using a tint to do my hi lights she used bleach and my hair is much lighter than I like it to be. To be fair it suits me and the condition is fine but I prefer the caramel/honey shades that I normally have. My question is could I apply an all over semi permanent tint (I have a Superdrug Colour Sensations in a Golden Blonde sitting in my cupboard) to tone it all down? Or if that would too much, could I apply it to individual strands (as if I were doing hi-lights).

I know I should have said something at the time but when she asked what colour I wanted I said 'Same as it is now' and I didn't state that I wanted tint using, so I didn't feel I should complain! Anyway, any help would be gratefully accepted.

If you didn't get the colour you asked for, go back, not two ways about it, they will redo the colour.

Otherwise try a toner wash, but if you do this, you will need to use one every time you wash or at least every other time as most perminant hair colourants include a sort of sealant which is designed to help the colour stop fading but also to stop other products colouring the hair as well, thats not to say it wont take any new colour- but you'd need to use a peroxide with it (eg DIY perminant colour) to get it to stay.

I'd go back personally, if not to complain then to ask for something different, its alot of hard work otherwise and you could so easily avoid it all.

To tone something down (if its too brassy) use a violet type wash- take a look at the stuff you have, when it comes out of the bottle is it purple? if not try an ash version which should look purple. It will take the yellow out and mellow it out a bit.
To brighten, you'd want something with a sort of yellow tone or even orange (but not too orange!) in it.

I'd go back and ask her to correct it. Bleached hair can take dye very strongly and you might find it goes darker than you'd like if you get it wrong.

I put a reddish tint in over bleached highlights many years ago. It was supposedly a wash in/wash out colourant. Well eventually it was CUT out!
