I think people should be aware that it is possible that Advantis Credit attempts to trace people at new addresses through online car insurance quotes - ie somehow Advantis could be accessing that information. When you obtain a quote you are entering a lot of personal information including date of birth and past addresses which all go to confirm who you are. Remember insurance companies share information "to avoid fraud" etc., and it would not suprise me if insurance quote websites sold that information on. My partner used several of the insurance search engines recommended by this website (moneysupermarket.com, confused.com etc) and made a slight error in the address. A month later Advantis Credit was writing (using the same address error that was previously entered) regarding a supposedly unpaid utility bill from several years ago at an old address. We will dispute this 'debt'. Advantis Credit have been sending what look like automated threatening letters regularly every two weeks.
  • I wrote to avantis with the prove it letter

they then passed everything back to united utilities (who are now chasing the money)

The charges are from 5th August 2008 (day after my bankruptcy which is fair) to 16 February 2009. I moved out in the May of 2008 and wrote to explain that and to chase my ex for the money.

I have received a letter back stating that I should have made them aware that I had moved out at the time (again can't argue that's my own fault doh!) and that they will not chase the ex as they will not get involved in two 3rd party disputes.

they have recommended I contact the Citizens advice bureau.

Looks like I'm stuck with having to pay the £265 anyone got any good suggestions on what I can do? or should I just pay it and put it down to experience?

Well, you obviously know leaving everything in your name was a bit silly.

If I was you I'd pay it and learn from experience. Maybe get in touch with the ex and ask her nicely if she'll pay half.
