Kenwood Chef Mixer - Buy New or Second Hand

Hi there, just looking for a bit of advice really,
I really want a Kenwood Chef Mixer ( I've been using my Mums kMix and the K beater is fab). I have looked around for the best deals and at the moment Costco have the Premier (has a faster motor, splashguard and flexible K beater included) for £180 or Ebay have the regular one for £170.
But I was also looking at the second hand ones, they seem to sell ones dating back to the 70's on ebay! These go for about £50-£90 depending on the extras they have with them. I like the fact that you can add extras on like the liquidiser, slicer, potato peeler, Cream maker, juicer, colander etc.
If I bought a new one would the older version second hand extras fit onto it? Does anyone have an older one and are the extras any good? Does anyone have a newer one and do they still make them as good quality as they used to (ie would it last 30 years like the older ones)? Any advice would be gratefully appriciated!!:D

    Hi Frugalsar.

I have an old Kenwood Chef dating from the late sixties when my parents got married.
It still works fine. Only problem is I sometimes get an oily/ greasy smell from the engine.
    And it is fairly noisy!
Not sure I would pay £50-£60 if I was going to use it regularly though!

I brought my 1970's kenwood a901 on ebay for about £40 .. But this time of year the prices creep up as people use them for christmas and then sell them later on ..

I have a few attachments for mine like the mincer & sausage maker, liquidiser, They use the a9** attachments ..The A901 is the better one to go for .. I have heard that the a701 is a little weak and prone to breaking ..

Yes they are noisy but i wouldn't be without mine.. The Costco deal is excellent..

Thanks for that - the A901 is the one I was looking at!

I have an A901 and it is lovely. Works really well and saves my arms! There are loads of attachments too so that is good :)

I got my Kenwood about 7 years ago for the grand total of £15 - saw it advertised in the local paper. Came with all the toys and it's fantastic - wouldn't be without it. It's an old model from the 60s!
