Hi i hope this is the right place to come and hope someone could help as i am just after a bit of advice before i work myslef up into a right paddy, but i am lucky enough to have got an interview at my local sainsburys in the next few days and it says when i go i need to take my passport as right to work in the uk.........but i have not been able to find it and am going to report it lost today at the post office and get a form for a replacement but i obviously wont have it back in time for the interview so, i was owndering if anyone had any experience on if the passport is the only document i can take or if my provisional driving license would be ok(photo ID with place and date of birth on it, united kingdom) and maybe a letter from the job centre with my NI number on it, and if i am lucky enough to pass the interview i can give them the passport as soon as it arrives?
I am so worried this could affect my chances of getting a job after having my children, i am going to phone the sainsburys recruitment line later today to try and see if they can tell me but in the mean time wondered if any of you nice helpful people could help, thankyou....

Your birth certificate is just as good if not better it seems to me!Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

You need both your birth certificate and the letter from the jobcentre with your NI number on it.
Both need to have the same name on them and the date of birth should be consistent with your appearance.0 -

A driving licence [provisional or not] isn't proof of your right to work in the UK, but coupled with proof of your NI number, this might be acceptable for the time being.
Explain the situation, that you have a passport, it's in the process of being replaces, but you've brought some additional ID to tide you over. This ID may be sufficient in itself, or they may just want a copy of your passport when it comes back.
Either way, it's unlikely to cost you the job. Worst case scenario, it'd delay your start date, but wouldn't necessarily influence their decision to hire you on a conditional basis [pending proper immigration proof].
Do you have your birth certificate to hand? That'd be useful.0 -
Driving license isn't one of the documents accepted. If you were born a British citizen you have to provide either
passport
or
birth certificate plus offical proof of National Insurance number (i.e. NI card or letter from government body stating NI number).Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.
Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
You'd need the full original birth cert or passport. Some companies won't continue with interview if you haven't. Just give them a call and tell them it's in the post, they may just re book interview or delay your start date. Don't worry though, they should be OK with it.0

I would have thought another form of ID would be fine - after all, not everyone has a passport.Sealed Pot Challenge Number 1225

skinnyminny, don't worry. A passport is not a requirement and there are plenty of people who don't have one. Sainsbury's just need this for ID purposes. Why not give them a quick ring, explain that yours is being replaced and ask which other forms of ID they'll take instead. It will be fine, I promise. thanks for the replies, i have phones sainsburys recruitment line and the lady was helpful and said that it has to either be a passport or a full birth certificate, i only had the small one but phoned the local regestry office and they have managed to do me a copy of a full version and i have collected it all ready as they do a priority service so i can relax a it now, although they charged me £29:eek: Not very moneysaving but in the long run it could be if i get the job so fingers crossed.........thanks everyone:):j:j:j0
