Jam jars with plastic lids..

Ive been saving jars for a while now thinking they would come in handy to freecycle for people who do jams etc. Only Ive just realised the chocolate spread ones have a plastic lid!
Will they still be useful for jams etc? I thought you had to put the lid (metal) on while the jam is still hot? Wondering what else they could be reused for before I give up and send them for recycling.
Thanks.

If you use a waxed paper disk to seal the surface when hot, then plastic lids are fine with jam. They can also be used for mincemeat and pickles as neither of these require heating the jars.0

Jars can be used for other things around the house as well! I have reused some to hold my tea in the kitchen. We have a chalkboard and an old pickle jar holds all of the chalk. In the bathroom they hold Q-tips and cottonballs. Get creative! They are so useful and rather adorable!0

Thanks, in the end I offered them on freecycle, some went for 'nail and screw containers' in a shed (lids to be nailed to the underside of a shelf apparently) the rest went to a girl who is collecting things for her wedding, they will be used as tea light holders all over her garden..very romantic!0
