Well I finally came clean!

I told 4 of my closest friends at the weekend about my debt. They didn't understand as each of them is excellent with managing money and none of them have ever paid interest on a credit card or struggled to get out of overdraft. But I feel so much better for being open about things. Plus I told them about this forum and said there were loads of tips on here which were useful for good-with-money people too and they're all going to check it out :D

  • Sadly Earwig they really don't have debts. They all overpay their mortgages and none of them spend money that they don't have. Haven't a clue how I ended up with such sensible friends!!!!

They're the first people I've told so this board is an absolute life-saver for me as you guys know the whole amount and you understand where I'm coming from.

Yay at you Mrs S. I'm not overly concerned about people knowing about my debt - I'm £34 k in the doo doo, though mines business and thanks to my Ratfink May-He-Forever-Have-Atheletes-Foot ex hubby. I hope that some of my friends learn by my lesson i.e don't marry idiots. Bet you feel a lot better, and this will make it easier to turn down dinner invites etc.
This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

Current Pay Off Target : £1500

  • Well done Mrs Sparkle - I have never gone into detail with my friends on my debt, or my parents come to that!!!! So I'm very impressed at your bravery!

They all know I have a bit of debt and my friends know that my ex owes me 8k (luckily I didn't marry him too!!!!), but I think they would be astounded at the mess I got myself in - I think they think as I have a good job, house, car that I can afford it all!!!!

    Hope all keeps going well!

Congratulations. At least you felt they were good enough friends to tell them. Perhaps they will share some tips with you about how to manage your money better - or perhaps if you hang around with them lots it will rub off on you.

P.S I've managed to quote someone (yay!). New techie skill.
