Been Charged twice for the same bill

I've just posted this on the mobile phone board but thought I'd run it past the seasoned DFWers.

I've just been doing some long overdue paperwork sorting, lets call it account auditing to sound posh.

I've found that "3" charged me twice for a bill some time back. I never noticed as I was living in Germany at the time. The next month shows the next bill coming out, so I know they didn't give me "credit" for it. I wouldn't mind but it was quite a sizeable bill as i was doing international calling at the time.

Do you think that there is any chance that I would be able to claim this back? Just wanted an opinion before I started a letter writing campaign.

My son works for 3. I'll ask him tomorrow.
  • I can't see why not. If you hadn't paid, they'd sure as hell be chasing you! One letter should sort it, I would have thought. Can't see them arguing if you can prove it was paid twice.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

    Hi TRH
This is the reply I got this morning from my son at "3"

Billing systems are accurate things. There is very rarely a mistake made as the information for a call is registered against the handset that made it (The IMEI number for the phone shows on all call records on a network. The invoice that a customer receives is just a prettier version of the the excel spreadsheet that a network generates for a particular customer) If the connection was made, the connection was made. If the calls were an exact duplicate of each other, then the network may be able to look in to it, but because it has been so long, the network might not even touch it. The network will more than likely not honour it as the call was made such a long time ago
  • Thanks for those replies guys.

I sent a letter today with the evidence that the bill was taken twice. The worse they'll say is no. I wonder whether the 6 year rule works from the consumer side too?

I think the OP is referring to an entire bill, not individual calls?
