Allowable tax expenses for worried landlord

in Cutting tax
My daughter and her partner have a small flat which they have had variously empty, filled with a friend and also rented out to tenants. My daughter is trying to complete a tax return and has discovered that a lot of her receipts are missing.
She was trying to find some information about allowable expenses - i remember vaguely that a friend used to claim a certain amount every year for 'sundry expenses and postage and paper' etc. i suggested that they should be able to claim mileage or something for all the times they have had to drive out to see propective tenants or to assist with lost keys or maintenance etc
Can anyone give some indication of what can be claimed and how much?
Many thanks in advance!

Work out how many miles to property and estimate how many visits you made
40 pence per mile for mileage (generally)0
